he article is devoted to the analysis of the features of the functioning of the parliamentary system in the Republic of India, based on the Westminster model. The purpose of the study is to analyze its basic principles and features, as well as institutional mechanisms that ensure the sustainability of democratic procedures in the context of polyethnicity and social fragmentation of Indian society. The methodological basis is the historical-institutional and comparative methods, as well as the method of analyzing regulatory legal acts. As a result of the study, the author comes to the conclusion that the model of parliamentarism that has developed in India tends to strengthen the role of the executive branch, but contributes to maintaining a balance of interests of various groups and maintaining political stability. The work can be useful for researchers of political institutions in postcolonial states.
