Challenge of the Space: Abstract Geopolitics, Territory Potential, and the Historical Track of the Far Eastern Borderlands in the 1990s. (On the example of the Khasansky district)
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
The article focused on the contradictory process of transformation of the border space from a zone of containment of a potential clash to a platform for the implementation of cross-border international projects using the example of the Khasansky district. The author shows that the potential of the territory as a location for the implementation of such projects was rather a discourse constructed by regional and local elites, by "separating" development projects from a broad context that connects them with the history of previous development and with the surrounding space. The main foundation of the article were the material first introduced into scientific discussions: archival documents and semi-structured interviews collected during author`s field research.

Keywords:
territorial development projects, regional policy, state, Khasansky district, Far East
