The paper considers such concepts as "investment attractiveness", "investment potential" and "in- vestment climate" of the region. Their differences are substantiated from the point of view of the assessment methodology. The investment attractiveness of the Far Eastern Federal District regions is assessed as a set of objective economic, social, natural, geographical and other properties of the region that are of high impor- tance for attracting Chinese investment. The study is based on investment ratings of Russian regions from Ex- pert-RA, the National Rating Agency, and the Russian-Chinese Investment Index of Russian Regions (A1 In- dex). In addition, the opinions of Russian and Chinese experts from government representatives and the scientific community are analyzed. The Far Eastern regions are identified as the most attractive for Chinese inves ors, as well as the most unpopular. One of the main reasons hindering the arrival of Chinese investors to the Far East is the demographic factor.
